Stanley Benschoter

Obituary

Stanley H. Benschoter, age 87, passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Wood Haven Health Care in Bowling Green, Ohio. He was born on November 24, 1929 to Douglas and Blanche (Bigelow) Benschoter. After graduating from Cygnet High School, Stan joined the U.S. Army where he served in the Korean War. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he married Roberta Copus on July 29, 1953. Stan worked for Green Manufacturing in Bowling Green, retiring after 35 years of service. Stan was a "Johhny Appleseed" personality; planting many trees, gardening 11 acres of land for a family produce stand, farming his grandparents farm in Rudolph, and enjoying everything about nature around him. Many friends and neighbors will recall seeing him riding his bicycle in the area of his home in Rudolph or even walking barefoot down the highway. Stan was a jokester who loved to entertain fellow workers with tap dancing while playing the harmonica. He founded the "Sardine Club" at work, gathering others around to eat crackers and sardines. He worked hard to provide for his family, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Stan is survived by his wife of 64 years, Roberta (Copus) Benschoter; children, Les (E.J.) Benschoter, Gloria Brandeberry, Mark (Rhonda) Benschoter, and Brian Benschoter; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sister, Shirley Tyson. He was preceded in death by his son, Tim; granddaughter, Shirley; great-grandson, Timothy Jr.; and brother, Larry Benschoter.
A Celebration of Life will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at House of Prayer in Bowling Green, Evangelist Jim Williams officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Snyder-Hoening Funeral Home, Holgate, Ohio.

Dear Roberta and family, I am sending my most sincere thoughts and prayers in the passing of Stanley. I have lost touch with you and Stanley for some time. I retired from Wood County Hospital in 2007, before that I worked in the office and helped you on many occasions. I am not sure you remember me, but I remember all of you as patients and friends. May God's love surround you and give you peace as you grieve but celebrate a dear man and his life. God Bless. Sandy
