Norma Jean Hayman
Norma Jean Hayman passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, April 2, 2017.
Jean was born in Battle Creek, Michigan on June 24, 1936 to Palmer and Louise Beebe. While finishing her studies at the University of Michigan, Jean married Richard (Dick) Hayman on February 5, 1956. Jean enthusiastically moved multiple times following Dick’s work, with notable stops in Battle Creek and Grand Rapids MI, Andover, MA, London, Ontario, Canada and Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Canada, before settling down in Defiance, Ohio. Dick fondly remembers Jean’s ability to create a warm and inviting home generously shared with family and friends.
Jean lived a life of service to her family and her community. She supported and encouraged her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in their many interests, activities, and endeavors. She contributed countless hours to her community through her work with the Family Justice Center of Northwest Ohio, her membership in the many churches she attended, and numerous other charities. And she will be forever remembered for her unparalleled love and devotion to her beloved dogs. Jean was truly a “dog whisperer,” and she and her loving companions visited many in need through both Michigan and Ohio-based dog therapy programs. Tails are wagging in Heaven at Jean’s arrival.
Jean is survived by her husband of 61 years, Dick, sister-in-law Polly Beebe, her children Deborah Bauman, Pamela Hayman, Randall (Susan) Hayman, grandchildren Nathan (Kera) Hayman, Aaron Weaner, Adam Weaner, Lindsay Bauman, Brittany Bauman, Caitlin Bauman, Kim Gamble, Nicholas (Zoe) Hayman, and Ian (Jennifer Warner) Hayman, and great-grandchildren Nathan Hayman, Khloe Hayman, and Allison Gamble, as well as by numerous adored nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Palmer Beebe, and her long-missed son, Todd Hayman.
The family will gather for a joyous celebration of life for their cherished wife, Mom, and Grammy at a time and location to be determined.
