Lois W. Gerken
Lois Wilhelmina Gerken, 91, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2017 as a result of a tragic car accident near her home. She was born on May 23, 1925 to Paul and Amelia (Gerken) Nagel in Defiance County. She graduated from NRA Jewell, Ohio in 1942. She worked at C.J. Ramus Co. in Napoleon, Ohio and then at Toledo Edison Company in Defiance. Ohio. On December 17, 1945, she married Frank W. Gerken who preceded her in death on December 24, 2002.
Lois is survived by her son, Thomas (Lori) Gerken of Napoleon; daughters, Elaine (Jim) Stainbrook of Bowling Green, Ohio, and Bonnie Prescott of Toledo, Ohio; 8 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; and 1great- grandchild expected in July. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; son-in-law, Larry Prescott; and 2 sisters, Lillian Mast and Alvera Bostelman.
Lois had an upholstery business in her home for 30 years. During that time, she taught upholstery classes at Four-County Joint Vocational School in Adult Education for several years. She took over Frank's job of Democratic Committee person, Napoleon Township West for 5 years. She was a poll worker over 30 years. Lois was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 300, a member of the Harrison Garden Club, and Filling Guild. She was a loyal member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School for 13 years, a member of WELCA Ladies Organization belonging to its Ruth Circle, and helped with Meals on Wheels and the serving group.
Visitation for Lois will be held from 4p.m. to 8p.m. on Monday, April 17 at Snyder-Wesche-Hoening Funeral Home in Napoleon. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Napoleon, with visitation at the church one hour prior to the service. Pastor James Castello will officiate. Memorial donations are suggested to Emanuel Lutheran Church.
