Lawrence Eugene Durham
Lawrence Eugene Durham, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Indiana University Health Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born on December 11, 1936 to Henry and Mildred (Wagner) Durham. Larry graduated from Florida High School in 1955. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He married Velma Schaper in September of 1962 and she survives. For 43 years, Larry served as a volunteer fireman with the Florida-Flatrock Ohio Volunteer Fire Department, attaining the rank of Captain. He worked for many years as a truck driver with Hudson Mills. Larry was a member of the Henry County Amateur Radio Club. In their younger years, he and Velma enjoyed roller skating, especially enjoying the waltz and two-step skating. He had many memorable times in years past as he went coon hunting with family and friends. Larry and Velma traveled extensively in their motor home, seeing 49 states, including three trips to Alaska. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Velma Jean Durham; brother, Harry "Bud" (Rose Marie) Durham; sister-in-law Wylodene Durham; and nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his parents ;and brothers. Kenneth Durham and infant brother, Lauren Dean Durham. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Walker-Hoening Mortuary in Napoleon. A Firemen's Last Call Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 3, 2017 at the funeral home, Pastor Terry Courter officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Riverview Memory Gardens in rural Defiance. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Florida-Flatrock Ohio Volunteer Fire Department, or to Indiana University Methodist Health Foundation for Pancreatic Research.
