Jacob J. Hubbel
Jacob J Hubbel, age 89, of the Point-Shoreland Community, passed away April 6, 2017. He was born in Toledo, OH on Sept. 28, 1927 to parents Barbara (Saionz) and Jacob Hubbel. He attended St Hedwig’s school and was a former 30-year member of its parish.
Jake (aka Jack) was a 1945 graduate of Central Catholic High school, where he achieved four years of perfect attendance and had received the Bishop’s Cross for excellence in religion. He remained active with CCHS classmates, being on committee for numerous reunions. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Detroit Mercy, Class of 1950. During his active years, Jake held memberships in local engineering societies, among them being past president of the local chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and a lifetime member of Tau Beta Pi Honorary Engineering Society.
He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean war.
His employment with the Toledo Scale Co, took on an “unexpected career”, when he met and was to marry, his secretary Jonelle. This May, they were to celebrate their 59th wedding anniversary.
As a Senior Sales Engineer at Toledo Scale Co., he traveled extensively cultivating many lifelong friends from coast to coast. He was a longtime employee and retired when headquarters relocated to Columbus, OH. Jake’s final retirement was as a Contract Administrator with the Defense Logistics Agency at Teledyne.
Jake was blessed with a remarkable memory and was a true scholar, loving the classics whether it be music, literature, or history. He was a voracious reader and numbers were his thrill and skill.
He was very devoted to his Catholic faith and was a longstanding parishioner of St John the Baptist Catholic Church and had been active as an Usher, Lector, and participant in many parish committees.
His memory will be cherished by loving wife Jonelle, daughter Beth, son Mark(Donna) of Rochester NY (grandchildren: Jacob, Therese, Emily, Daniel, Caroline, AnnMarie), son Greg(Stephanie) of Rochester NY (grandchildren: James, Becca, Anna, Thomas, Sarah, Noah, Maria, Gracie, Lily).
Jake was preceded in death by his parents and infant grandchild Faith.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at St John’s Church, on Monday April 10th , at 10:30am with Fr David Cirata as celebrant. Visitation will precede the Mass from 9:30 to 10:30am at the church.
