Eugene "Sonny" A. Farmer
Eugene "Sonny" A. Farmer, 83, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2017 surrounded by family. He was born on December 4, 1933 to John and Fay Farmer.
He served our country with the Fourth Naval District, from enlistment on June 10, 1952 until he was Honorable discharged on June 9, 1960. He was part of the USNR, there he received a National Defense Service Medal. He served on the U.S.S. Salem during the Korean War in the Mediterranean and Atlantic Ocean. He was a member of VFW Post 606, Toledo. Eugene worked as a Sheet Metal Worker for Local 33, he had just celebrated his 60th year with the Union this past December. For many years he worked at Bradwell/Bradish and other various companies which at times had him travel until retirement in 1993. He made a honest living for his wife (of 45 years) and daughter.
Sonny's favorite pass time was golfing, he was a member of the Tamaron Club and Bedford Hills, and traveled the country playing hole after hole with his East Side Bunch. His friends would tease him because of his weird cross handed grip. But that was ok, since it did give him 4 hole in one's that he could be proud of. Sonny also loved fishing and owned a boat for many years to be able to catch all the perch and walleye he could eat. Although after retiring he would spend his winters (from January to March) in Florida with his friends and family since he was not a fan of the cold. But his favorite holiday was Christmas, which he would light up the outside of the house so bright, music and all, you could almost see it from space. He would also build a Christmas village that got bigger and bigger every year with 3 separate levels all with their own train and track.
Sonny is survived by his wife, Joan "Joanie" Farmer; daughter, Michelle (Robert) Mueller; the highlight of his life, granddaughter, Morgan Mueller; sisters, Jeanne Tyler and Sandra Wicket; nieces, Joy (goddaughter)(Jim) Corberly, Dawn Tyler-Navarro, Kim (Rob) Carroll; nephew, Brian (Jessica) Kotz with several great- nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law, Chuck Tyler and Virgil Wickert.
