Obituary

Encarnacion M. “Chonito” Hernandez Jr., 93, of Fostoria, passed away Tuesday morning, April 11, 2017 at his home.

He was born October 15, 1923 in Waelder, Texas to the late Encarnacion and Simona R. (Martinez) Hernandez Sr. He married Santiaga C. Capetillo on October 3, 1942 in Texas and they shared 73 years of marriage together before her death January 6, 2016.

Surviving are three daughters, Carol T. (Ramiro) Martinez, Vickie (Ron) Cruz and Linda (Shawn) Keels all of Fostoria; eight grandchildren, Gina (Chris Kennedy) Martinez, Jeff (Stacy) Martinez, Gabriel Martinez, Chris Garcia, Noe (Angie) Medina III, Priscilla (Adam) Drenning, Cedric (Amanda) Keels and Shawn Keels Jr.; 17 great-grandchildren; eight brothers and sisters, Joe (Brenda) Hernandez, Fostoria, Susie (Jack) Garn, Arizona, Lupe Sanchez, Fostoria, Ramona Sanchez, Bowling Green, Armandina (Tony) Rodriquez, Chicago, Angelina (Ralph) Hernandez, Clyde, Juanita (Moises) Avila, Pemberville and Mary (Hilario) Capetillo Sr., Fostoria.

He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jessica Garcia; great-grandson, Christopher Garcia; great-granddaughter, Eylssia Garcia; sister, Anita Navarro and brother, Isidro Hernandez.

He retired from the Union Carbide, Fostoria after 35 years of service and was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church. He managed and coached baseball in earlier years and played the saxophone with the band. He enjoyed fishing and the Cleveland Indians, but most of all he dearly loved his wife and family and will be greatly missed.

Visitation is Monday April 17, 2017 from 3-7 pm at HOENING FUNERAL HOME 242 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria where a Christian Wake service will take place at 7 pm.

Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 am Tuesday at St. Wendelin Catholic Church with Rev. Todd Dominique presiding. A Rosary will be prayed at 10 am at the Church. Burial will follow in St. Wendelin Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to a local chapter of the American lung Association or the Leukemia / Lymphoma Society.
