Edward T. Reiter, Jr.


Edward Thomas Reiter, 80, of Point Place, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, April 2, 2017 at Mercy St. Vincent's Medical Center. He was born on July 8, 1936 to Edward and Bertha (Smoktonowicz) Reiter.

He was a 1954 graduate of Macomber High School. After graduation, Ed served in the United States Marine Corps from 1954 through 1957. He then joined the Navy Seabee Reserves, where he was named Navy Seabee of the year in 1977. He completed his military career with the Ohio National Guard 323rd Military Police Company, retiring in 1992. Ed was proud to have had so many opportunities to serve his country.

Edward and Virginia (Krempa) began their married life on June 25, 1960 and were blessed with three children. They enjoyed spending time with their family, traveling, gardening, and cruising in their 1955 Mercury. He was employed for 40 years at Columbia Gas. He was a member of the former VFW Post 3265, American Legion Post 537, former Placer's Car Club, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and was part of the Honor Guard for Christ Dunberger American Legion Post 537.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Virginia Reiter; children, Annette (Larry) Hyttenhove, Nancy (Chris) Salisbury, and Thomas Reiter; grandchildren Katie Bolles, Colleen (Brett) Sergent, Michael (Kasia) Hyttenhove and Anderson, Mikaela, Quentin and Sienna Salisbury; great-grandchildren, Carter, Connor, Camden, Grace and Lucas; and brother, Jim (Barbara) Reiter. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Theresa Piasecki.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 6, 2017 from 2pm until 8pm at the David R. Jasin-Hoening Funeral Home, 5300 N. Summit St., Toledo, with an American Legion Service at 7pm presented by Christ Dunberger Post 537. Visitation will also be held beginning at 9:30am on Friday, April 7, 2017 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 5153 N. Summit St., Toledo with a Mass of Christian Burial to immediately follow at 10:30am. Father David Cirata will officiate. Interment at St. Ignatius Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to the charity of the donor's choice may be considered in lieu of flowers.
