Dennis "Papa" H. Schlegel

Obituary

Dennis "Papa", 63, of Toledo, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at home. He was born on November 22, 1953, to Harold and Mary (Vargo) Schlegel.

 

Dennis worked as a boat motor mechanic most of his life, and was employed by Bi-State Marine, in Erie, for 10 years. He was a contributing guest of Post # 3265, Point Place,  and a current member of the American Legion Post # 110.  He attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Dennis was known as an excellent and outstanding cook. His family and friends raved about his cooking. He enjoyed gardening, he loved the  outdoors and his furry friends, but absolutely loved his grandchildren even more.

 

Dennis is survived by the love of his life, Kathy Eteau, with whom he spent the last 35 years; daughters, Rachel Estok and Jaclyn Bachik; grandchildren, Briana Estok, Rusty Estok, and Hunter Bachik; brothers, Tom (Lana), Mike (Carol), and Jeff (Julie) Schlegel; sisters, Joyce and Chris; extended family, Jenny Romanczyk, Denise (Joe) Willard, and Mike (Laura) Romanczyk; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Robin.

 

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 14, 2017  from 2 until 7 pm at the David R. Jasin-Hoening Funeral Home, 5300 N. Summit St., Toledo, OH 43611. Funeral services will begin on the same day at 7 pm at the funeral home. Fr. David Cirata will be officiating.

 

Memorial contributions may be considered to the Autism Society of Northwest Ohio or the Toledo Humane Society.

Kathy and Jeff,
I am so very sorry for your loss. I am deeply sadden. I still laugh at all the great times we had. He was so much fun and so much laughter. I will miss him terribly. My deepest sympathy.
