Obituary

DeLoris J. Hammer, 89, of Fostoria, passed away at 3:20 pm Wednesday May 24, 2017 at Independence House, Fostoria.

She was born April 8, 1928 in Lafayette, IN to the late Arthur and Dorothy (Holcomb) Kopf. She married Joseph H. Hammer on October 15, 1945 in Detroit, MI and he died December 5, 1982.

Surviving are three children, Vicki (Gerald) Lee, Spring, TX, Joseph “Joe” (Lois) Hammer, Lexington, KY and John P. Hammer, Fostoria; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, William “Bill” Hammer; daughter, Arvetta “Detta” Souder; and sisters, Arvetta Perry and Joann Myers.

DeLoris was a 1946 graduate of Fostoria High School. She had worked at the former Bud’s Bakery, Fostoria and retired from Dell’s Restaurant. She had been a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Catholic Ladies of Columbia, Eagles Auxiliary and the former Hospital Guild.

She was a longtime volunteer at Fostoria Community Hospital and St. Wendelin Schools. She loved sports especially the Cleveland Indians, and was remarkable with remembering the players and their statistics. But her greatest joy was her family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

'Be not afraid, I go before you always. Come, follow Me, and I will give you rest'. May these words of Jesus our Jehovah-God in song bring you much hope and encouragement as you now remember Deloris' life legacy. Cherish in your hearts the many warm and fond memories that you share. May our risen Lord richly bless you all now and in the days ahead.

My condolences to the family for your loss. 2 Cor. 1:3,4 describes God as the Father of tender mercies who comforts us in all our trials. Along with your fond memories, may Jehovah God (Psalm 83:18) provide you with the comfort you need during this difficult time.
