Obituary

Bernadine "Bernie" M. Abair, 90, of Lost Peninsula, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Elizabeth Scott Community in Maumee. She was born on June 15, 1927 to James and Florence (Smith) Sewell.

Bernie was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and served on the Funeral Luncheon Committee for well over 20 years. She also was a member of the Rosary Alter Society. She and her husband Fred lived in Erie, MI for over 60 years and as of late, Bernie resided at Elizabeth Scott Community in Maumee.

Bernie was known for her pie baking (secret crust) and for baking, decorating Christmas cookies. She enjoyed playing cards, especially Pinochle and Golf with her girlfriends on Friday afternoons. Every summer for years she and her out of state sisters held a reunion at each other's homes. She was a huge Detroit Tigers and U of M Wolverines fan. She also enjoyed camping, family vacations, and holidays.

Left to cherish Bernie's memory are her husband of 65 years, Fred Abair; daughters, Mary Pat (Hal) White of Littlestown, PA and Beth (Bob) Sugg of Maumee; grandchildren, Ryan (Chloe) White and Justin (Kelly) White; great-grandchildren, Charles, Tessa, and Evelyn White; and sister Virginia Kelly of Manchester, CT.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mary Grace Sewell, Marguerite "Sweetie" Peppers, and Patricia Steele; and brother, Robert Sewell.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 from 3 to 8pm in the David R. Jasin-Hoening Funeral Home, 5300 N. Summit St., Toledo, OH 43611. Funeral Mass will take place at 11am on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 5153 N. Summit St., Toledo, Ohio 43611. Father David Cirata will officiate. Bernie will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in a private ceremony at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be considered to: St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Point Place or a charity of donor's choice.
